Relay 4 LIfe Honor and Memory Dinner, January 21, 2012

January 23, 2012
“Mane Street Hair Designers Relay 4 Life Honor and Memory Dinner Theater (In Loving Memory of Judy Chandler), January 21 @6p.m., USCL Bradley Building”.

That’s what the ticket said….loving memory.

And loving memories filled that auditorium Saturday night as over 100 people gathered to honor Judy and, once again, thank her for the contributions she made to build hope and bring smiles to so many who had or were walking in her steps.
Judy’s long fight with cancer ended August 2, 2011, but she was there Saturday.  We could see her and feel her presence through Jeff’s speech, the music and our laughter and tears.
Judy could always take a negative and turn it into a positive and her timing was impeccable this week with the CNN debacle.  While they portrayed us as down trodden, back-woods townspeople, we came together to show everyone that Lancaster is full of strong, caring people who support and fight for great causes, like Relay 4 Life.
I started this little blog on July 13 to vent my feelings and frustrations about loosing Judy.  As it turns out, we really have not lost her at all.  She will always be with us and be part of us.  I think if this blog continues, it’s time to turn from the sorrow and grieving to joy about what lies ahead for people who have survived this horrible curse.
This past year I have experienced just a small part of this with my daughter but thanks be to God, research has possibly given her a chance to become a mother, whereas, a few years ago, she may not have had that opportunity.  Let’s move forward, never forgetting Judy or so many others who lost the race.  We have to win this race and there were quite a few people there Saturday who are winning that race– one for over 30 years.  We can do it.  We have people like Judy who have counseled and coached us and, besides, WE ARE LANCASTER and our determination has deep roots.

Love to all...susan
